Mangaluru: The coastal region of Karnataka is blessed with beautiful landscape and beaches. People come from near and far to soak in the seaside vibes and gaze upon the beauty of nature. The most that people were able to do at the beach side was rides on boats and jet skis or go swimming. That all changed in 2004 when Mantra Club was started in the coastal city of Mulki in the Dakshina Kannada district.

The Mantra Club is one of the pioneers of “adventurer sports” in India and was founded by Jack “Surfing Swami” Hebner and Rick Perry in the late 90s. The club was established back when the sport of surfing was relatively unknown in India. Today the camp offers a variety of water sports such as wake-boarding, stand up paddle boards (SUP) for the river or ocean and sea kayaking. They also take visitors snorkeling to the local Islands.

Their Ashram Surf and Yoga Retreat located here provide one with a wide variety of options when it comes to adventure sports.

Surfing, SUP surf, surf lessons, Surf Yoga, stand up paddle, Yoga meditation, Bhajan, jet skiing, wake-boarding, water skiing, backwater river boat tours, sea kayaking, cycling tours and more can all be done right here at India’s original Yoga and surfing retreat.

In a bid to spread awareness about surfing in India, Surfing Swami launched www.surfingindia.net to help surfers in and around India to help the interested find good places to surf and also provide other information.

The club caters to children as well as adults, who come to learn the sport. The club has also taken the initiative to teach the local children surfing and stand up paddling.

Over the last ten to fifteen years, surfing has picked up in the country and the Mantra Club has played a major role in this up-trend.

The club has also set up the Surfing Swami Foundation which is a charity organisation. They are also involved in a variety of social work like beach cleanups and village cleanups and educating the villagers about keeping the environment clean. They also help children who are financially backward by providing scholarships so that they can surf and study.

Apart from water sports, the Mantra Club also provides boat cruises. They have two boats, a speed boat and a pontoon boat. These boats can be used for family cruises, sunset cruises and birthday cruises.

This is the perfect place for a family getaway.
