Bengaluru: A long-standing ban on dubbed films in Karnataka is soon going to be done away with as Tamil super star Ajith starrer ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ is all set to be released in Kannada soon.It was about two-decades-ago that Kannada film fraternity had protested again the influx of dubbed films and brought in a ban on the grounds that the homegrown Kannada films could hardly withstand the onslaught of the dubbed films. The tradition continued for over 20 years, despite the fact that Competition Commission of India gave its nod to have dubbed films run in Karnataka and accordingly, no producer ever mustered courage to put his money on a dubbed film.
Now, breaking the tradition, ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ is all set to release in Kannada with the title ‘Sathyadev IPS’. With the dubbing in its last leg, the film has already created a nail-biting suspense around the reaction of the movie-goers.
‘Yennai Arindhaal’, co-written and directed by Gautham Menon and produced by A. M. Rathnam was a massive hit in Tamil.
What would be the result of breaking an unwritten rule? One may have to wait and watch.
