Mangaluru: A banner seen hanging in front of a famous juice joint in city, which asks the public to make the world a greener place. The juice joint doesn’t stop its work at just a banner. The juice shop also makes sure customers also pick saplings.

It is the go-green initiative of ‘Juice Junction’,  located at Balmatta.  ‘Juice Junction’ is a renowned juice shop, which has been functioning over the past 28 years. Owing to its quality and service, people have always thronged here to taste various flavours of juices. But the highlight of the initiative is that you don’t need to be a customer of the shop to get a sapling.

The initiative commenced on May 29 and it will conclude on June 12. The shop has already disbursed around 750 saplings. Though the owner of the shop Arun Naik decided to provide only 100 saplings per day, they disbursed beyond that number owing to demand. This shop spends around Rs 52 for a sapling including its transport cost. These saplings have been procured by the horticulture department.

Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, proprietor of ‘Juice Junction’ Arun Naik informed that it is his small initiative in order to increase green cover. “As we have destroyed our nature for our livelihood, we need to conserve it now. Hence, I decided to disburse saplings free of cost. If this initiative is followed by all, then the task of conserving nature would become easier. As people demand only fruit bearing saplings,  I have supplied different varities of mango saplings. I have already approached the forest department to procure teak, sapota, neem among other saplings which would be disbursed from Monday, June 3”, he informed.

Arun Naik also revealed his future plan of disbursing more number of saplings from next year. “ I have planned to approach corporate companies to seek their help,  in order to disburse more number of saplings in 10 different locations. Along with plants, there is also a plan to educate people about the need for green cover,” he said.
