Bollywood has taken off for Nakash Aziz from Moodbidri, a small town close to Mangaluru in Coastal Karnataka. His popular songs include Sari Ke Fall Sa from R Rajkumar, Gandi Baat from R Rajkumar, Dhating Naach from Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Fitna Farebi from Phantom, Tukur Tukur from Dilwale, and Jabra Fan from Fan among others.
Nakash Aziz breathes music. He’s a singer, a composer and a sometime assistant to A R Rahaman, who was, and continues to be his idol, while he considers Pritam Da as his mentor.

Incidentally, his meeting Rahman during his early days in Mumbai was not by accident. He so arranged it that he and his partner got a small-time arrangement job in a reality show where Rahman was one of the judges. At some point the two got talking and he managed to convince the great composer to listen to a couple of thier own compositions. Following that meeting, Aziz’s dream became reality. Rahman offered him an arranging job, following which he worked with him in projects such as Highway, Raanjhanaa, Rockstar and Delhi 6. For Aziz, his parents are his role model. He says of his parents: “They have always supported me. Due to them, I am here”.

Aziz told Karnataka Today‘s Vedanth, that he had always been interested in music, even in his childhood. “I was always interested in music since a kid. At a young age I started practicing singing from my father, who was a part of the famous band ‘Rema Roses’ in Mangalore. I started to take formal training in Hindustani Classical music during my high school days. I also participated in the popular reality show Indian Idol 2 in the year 2005. However I could not make it to the Top 10.”  But Nakash Aziz is the kind of guy who never really gives up. He was among the top 32 finalists in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. He was knocked out during the auditions for Indian Idol but came back strongly during Indian Idol 2 where he was one of 28 finalists before being eliminated.  “My experience at Indian Idol 2 was really great. I learnt a lot there. After I was eliminated, I did not lose heart. As we all know, if we have to grow, we will have to face many failures in life. I took the failure in my stride and started to concentrate more on music. Failure teaches you the best things in life” he concluded.

Nakash Aziz is also proud of his roots in coastal Karnataka. “I am proud to be from Moodbidri. Whenever I am free, I try to visit my hometown. I love the atmosphere there. The people are always very sweet and welcoming. Due to my packed schedule, I am finding it difficult to come to Mangaluru nowadays”, he lamented.

He began his journey in the film industry in Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Aisha’. “Amit Trivedi gave me a chance in Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Aisha’. It was the beginning of my journey in playback singing. Pritam and A R Rahman gave me many songs thereafter. I also sang for Kannada films. I also composed music for Marathi films. By god’s grace, due to my fans support, I was able to sustain in the music field and would now like to compose music for Hindi films”.  Aziz reiterates that if he gets that kind of an opportunity he would surely take it up, but leaves it to fate to hand that opportunity to him. “I do not plan things. So I have never planned of composing for any films. When I got a chance to compose music for a Marathi film, I took up the opportunity. So if I have ever get an opportunity, I will surely compose music for any language”.

Aziz is no stranger to singing in Kannada, and in fact debuted in Coastalwood music recently. He says he finds singing in Kannada and Tulu “very sweet”.  But he confesses, “Though I do not know to speak the languages fluently, I feel great to be part of films which are from my hometown. I have been singing songs in Kannada since many years. Recently I have sung songs for Tulu film ‘Kudla Café’  and‘Pilibail Yamunakka’. I hope I sing more songs in Kannada and Tulu in future”.

His message for budding young talent – always persevere, come what may, “I request the youngsters to never give up. Be there for music and keep up your interest. Never get carried away. It may take some time to make a name for themselves. But they must be patient and make sure that they practice their music regularly. If they work hard, they will surely do well in their music career” he averred.
