Golden Shuttle, a badminton academy founded by Jnanesh Salian in the year 2010, has opened their fourth center at Kottara Chowki here. The center is equipped with 6 international standard wooden courts topped with Li-Ning synthetic mats.

“We believe the state-of-the-art courts will help us provide a better coaching & playing experience to our senior students & help us achieve our goal of creating international badminton players from the city of Mangaluru,” said Jnanesh who is also the head coach Golden Shuttle Academy.

Jnanesh who has been pursuing the sport since the age of 10 and having played in various tournaments at the State and National level through the academy has trained many students from grass root level starting from the age of 6 onwards to players pursuing the sport professionally.

“Our students have been performing consistently at the State and National level,” he said. “One of our students, Akansha S Pai achieved her career best ranking of 7 at the National level in U-17 Girls Doubles category. In the year 2017, Anannya Joishy was the first girl from Dakshina Kannada to get selected for U-13 Karnataka State team. Further on, many of our students have achieved multiple laurels at the Khelo India program, tournaments conducted by the SGFI (School Games Federation of India) and other national level tournaments.”

The new center at Kottara Chowki is equipped with amenities such as spacious washrooms, shower facilities and ample parking space to provide everyone with a world-class experience. “The Center and its facilities can also be availed by badminton enthusiasts who wish to play the sport as a leisure activity or pursue it on an everyday basis. We have daily and monthly court bookings available,” said Jnanesh. As part of introductory offers, membership can be taken for Rs 1500 per month and 9000 per court on a monthy basis for court booking, Rs 600 per court. We also offer the court facilities for organizing corporate and private tournaments, he added.

“Nowadays kids do not play any sports and are most into online games,” said Jnanesh. It is very important for children to engage in some kind of physical activity so that they can also learn the art of winning and losing, he added.

Speaking on the trend of playing badminton these days he said, “This is a sport which can be played at any level. People from the age of 7 to 80 enjoy badminton and our ultimate aim is to create a comfortable playing experience accessible to everyone. We look forward to creating more players from our city who shall put Mangaluru on the world map of badminton.”
