Mysuru: Education has its place, but it may not be necessary for success in entrepreneurship. Going by the success story of 65-year-old Maniben Borisan, an artist from Gujarat, education is not the only criteria to become a successful business person. Maniben did not attend any school, but has become successful entrepreneur.

Maniben, a handloom embroidery artist from Gujarat who is taking part in Vastra Utsav which is going on at JSS Urban Haat did good business during the just concluded expo “Gujarat Handicraft Utsav” which was also organized by JSS Urban Haat earlier. Though there were nearly 40 master artisans including many artists who came out with the same products which are being sold by Maniben, she managed to outsmart all of them through her marketing skills and earned Rs 2.8 lakh business during the ten day expo, which was the highest. Four years back, she even suffered a heart attack at JSS Urban Haat, but it didn’t stop her from coming to Mysuru. For the past eight years, she is regular to JSS Urban Haat. Single handedly, she runs the business successfully. She is into Gujarat ladies dress materials, kurtas and coat. After successful business during the Gujarat Handicraft Utsav, she continued to be part of Vastra Utsav and is confident of coming out with good business.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Maniben who is into the profession for nearly 45 to 50 years said, “Wherever I go, I go alone. I am not afraid of anything. For the past 30 years, I am doing business alone and no one is assisting me. Though I don’t know many languages fluently, still I can to convince the customers and get the products moving. Usually, I used to do business at an average of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh but during Gujarat Handicraft expo which concluded recently, I managed to get Rs 2.8lakh as business.” The successful business woman can be seen at the ongoing Vastra Utsav which concludes on August 7.

Minto Das, an artist from West-Bengal who is into terecota business said, “I am coming here for the past many years and seen Maniben. She is a smart lady who is very good in convincing the customers. The secret behind her success is she is having lot of patience. From her first customer, to the hundredth, she can speak in the same flow. She never loses her cool at any point of time. She is really a role model to many artists especially women artists.”
