“The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

The universally celebrated festival of Christmas is at hand again, bringing with it, lots of happy moments and cheer. As we await the arrival of Santa Claus, the universal symbol of Christmas, the Blue Angels Choir (BAC) has released a Christmas Carols medley on YouTube on December 10 to initiate the cheer and spread the message of Christmas. Prior to this they have released two other covers.

The Blue Angels Choir’s Christmas Carols Medley is a multi-lingual medley in keeping with the diverse and multi-lingual construct of the Mangalurean society and consists of 6 languages – Konkani, English, Kannada, Hindi, and interestingly Latin and French. BAC is the first group of Mangalore ever to come up with this concept.

Watch the Video here:

The story behind the Christmas Carols Medley

A year ago, the young team had participated in a Christmas carols competition organized by the CSI Church at KTC, Balmatta. There they observed a lot of groups singing with four voices – tenor, alto, soprano, and bass – while most groups they had heard before sang in just three voices. They also got a chance to observe two Acapella groups (singing without instrumental accompaniments) – This is something they found intriguing. Their interest was piqued. They made plans and got the opportunity to gauge the audience’s reception at a competition at Shirva a few weeks later, organized by the Don Bosco Youth Center – The same medley which is released now was presented there. The judges for the competition M Dolvin Kolalgiri, Senet D’cunha and Royston Pinto appreciated the effort, one even suggesting they come up with a YouTube cover. Which they did!

The talented team and their production

The concept and the vocal arrangement for this project were handled by Denzil Pereira, Derick Dsouza, Neel Coelho, Hansel Rego, Kajal Moras, Disha Moras, Anisha Dsouza provided the soprano, while Joshil Saldhana chipped in with the Alto and Denzil himself vocalized the tenor.

The audio was recorded at CAD Studio, Mangalore by Shinoy V Joseph. Rhythm and Music was produced mixed and mastered by Darrel Mascarenhas, USA.

The location for the video shoot was provided by Mr Arjun Moraes, the video was filmed by Noel D’souza and Santhosh Raj. Nihar Sylvester also assisted in the shoot. Post Production editing and grading was carried out by Noel D’souza. www.NewsKarnataka.com and Karnataka Today, a premier English print Magazine of Karnataka, are media partners.

About Blue Angels Choir

Blue Angels Choir came into existence on January 1, 2014. Initially, the group was named “PADUA BLUE ANGELS” as most of the singers in the group were from the Padua Institutions. The main intention behind starting this group was to sing in church for various occasions. As the years rolled on, the group started giving public performances. Denzil Pereira is the coordinator of this versatile music troupe while Rev. Fr. Michael Santhumayor mentors them as a team.

BAC has performed more than 50 times as a choir, have demonstrated their considerable talents at public performances, wedding receptions and concerts, and presented TV and radio Programs.

They go beyond the mundane. They experiment. They have conducted 8 musical experiments till date and it’s the first group to come up with a Konkani Medley.

The message of the Christmas Medley

The message of the medley is clear – Peace and Harmony to all in the world. Jai Waetford put it succinctly when he wrote the song – ‘When a Child is Born’. An extract of the lyrics goes like this:

“And all of this happens because the world is waiting
Waiting for one child
Black, white, yellow, no-one knows
But a child that will grow up and turn tears to laughter
Hate to love, war to peace and everyone to everyone’s neighbor
And misery and suffering will be words to be forgotten”
