Mangaluru: The Barke tigers, which have won the hearts of Mangalureans with their roar were feared to go extinct post this year’s Mangaluru Dasara.

One of the first thoughts that comes to our mind when we think of Mangaluru Dasara is the Pili Vesha, a glorious and traditional art form of the region which has an integral place in all festivities.

While speaking about the Pilli vesha, one of the troupes that initially comes to our mind is the Barke Friends Club headed by Yajneshwar aka Yeddu Barke who too dons the Pili Vesha. Known for his rowdy ways earlier, Yeddu has been living a transformed life since the past several years and is now a successful businessman.

Celebrating its silver jubilee this year, this troupe which is one among the 55 tiger troupes existing in the city currently, was feared to be no more seen on the prowl in the city.

In an exclusive tete-e-tete with NK TV, Yeddu has spoken about his past and advises people not to run behind money. “Money may come and go but it’s the relationships that you build that will be treasured till the end,” says this man who takes ultimate pride in helping carry forward the Tulunadu culture.

Youth today need to be aware of our culture since they are the ones who will take this forward, he adds.
