Mangaluru: Roshni Nilaya, School of Social Work, in association with Alumni Association, Mangaluru Chapter organised, Maria Paiva Couceiro memorial lecture, at the college auditorium on Thursday, March 17.
Dr. Olinda Pereira, Founder Principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, delivering the inaugural address, said that Maria Paiva Couceiro was very much instrumental in making the college what it is today.
“No room for discouragement. This is what she always used to say. She stressed on the education of women said that women of India, with education, can help themselves as well as others,” she said.
K G Nanjappa, Deputy Director of Factories, Mangaluru, gave a talk on the topic, “General safety at workplace and its importance with statutory implications.” He informed the various reasons how industrial accidents happen and how they can be prevented. Nanjappa gave a detailed talk along with videos, pictures and slideshow for the gathering on industrial safety.
On being queried about how safe the industrial areas in Mangaluru are, he replied that employees and residents of the surrounding areas around the industries are given complete information and also trained in industrial safety.
“Crude oil storage, LPG, chlorine and ammonia are used in the factories in Mangaluru. Industries are equipped with safety measures. However, promoting awareness and being prepared for response is in human hands,” he said.
Jacintha D’Souza, Former Principal, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya and Steevan Pinto, President Alumni Association, Mangaluru Chapter, were present.
