Progressive Konkani Writers Forum – Mumbai Unit formed & Poetry Recital held

Mumbai: Konkani (Kannada Script) Progressive Writers Forum – Mumbai Unit was being formed during the Konkani Writers Meeting held on October 4 2015 at Mira Road. Well known Konkani writer/Actor Joy Paladka and Well known Konkani poet Hillary D’silva were unanimously chosen as the co-ordinators for Mumbai unit.

The meeting began at 4pm, in the welcome speech, Joy Paladka highlighted the need for Konkani Writers in Mumbai to meet and focus on his literary progress and working together for the development of Konkani Literature. He also introduced each of the writers.

Core committee member of Progressive Writers Forum, Valley Quadras, in his speech stated the objective of the Progressive Writers Forum and the need for Konkanni to have such a forum. He said “Though there have been Konkani periodicals getting published from Mumbai, there hasn’t been a significant progress in the literature, and a writer of today need to realise this and work collectively for the progress of konkani literature, the initiative must begin with self, through his thinking and his writing, only then the progress in konkanni literature is possible.” He also mentioned that a relevant platform will be provided for the writers who aspire to progress, and literary workshops will be conducted in the coming days.

All the members expressed their views stating the need to form a writers forum that focuses on progressive thinking. Joseph Dsouza; popularly known as Joy Paladka and Hillary D’Silva (Popularly known as Prasanna Niddodi) were chosen as the co-ordinators to work for the Mumbai unit.

‘Konkani poets must read more poetry from other languages to set higher benchmark in writing, this can certainly help write better poetry’ – said by Nazreth Neri, who presided over the ‘Poetry Recital’, which was participated by Prasanna Niddoddi, Jerry Bondel, Jerry Mira Road, Joy Paladka, Valley Quadras and Nazreth Neri.
