Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Management and St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA) jointly organized ‘The Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2016’, at Fr L.F. Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block, St Aloysius College.
The prestigious award was conferred to five achievers in various fields. Author of several books and former professor, Prof. B S Raman, scientist and mathematician K P Rao, founder of Thumbay group at UAE, Thumbay Moideen, senior conservation scientist and ecologist, DR. K Ullas Karanth, Chairman of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) Southern Region, Walter D’Souza were honoured for their achievements in their respective fields.
Rev Fr Denzil Lobo S.J., Rector, St Aloysius Institutions, conferred the awards. In his presidential address, he said that the awardees have made this world a better place.
“Their exceptional achievement in their respective fields makes me feel that they have achieved the motto of this institution ‘Lucet Et Ardet’ which means ‘shine to enkindle’. The college is proud of you and I thank you for accepting the award,” he said.
Speaking on Jesuit education, Fr. Lobo said that Jesuits priests always believed in giving personal care to students and also forming men and women for others.
Thumbay Moideen delivered the conclave address along with a power-point presentation on Thumbay Group.
“This is the best moment of my life. The grace of god, my family upbringing and education from St. Aloysius College helped me to reach where I am today,” he said.
Moideen through the power-point presentation showed the gathering, his journey from a timber merchant to successfully establishing the Gulf Medical University in UAE and many other business operations.
Prof. B S Raman spoke about his commitment, loyalty to St. Aloysius College, eagerness to enforce discipline, time management and simplicity of life which lead to what he’s today. He also spoke about launching a couple of books soon.
Dr. K P Rao and Walter D’Souza remembered their early days and told that their teachers are the one who made them different human beings.
Dr. Ullas Karanth said that though he had spent only a year in the college, those moments were the best. He stressed on the importance of conservation as it was the center to development.
Fr. Denzil Lobo was honoured on the occasion.
Prof Edmund Frank compered the programme.
Dr Richard Gonsalves, President, St Aloysius College Alumni Association, welcomed the gathering while Michael D'Souza, Convener, delivered the vote of thanks.
