New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani, on Sunday, February 9, gave a shout-out to Taapsee Pannu-starrer “Thappad” by sharing a snapshot from the trailer that was released a few days ago.
Taking to Instagram, the Union Minister wrote, “… I might not support the political ideology of the director or may disagree with some actors on some issues but this is a story that I will definitely watch and hope people watch it with their families. It’s not ok to hit a woman … not even a slap … not even JUST one slap.”
She also listed, in her post, the various instances where women brush away the incidents of domestic abuse by thinking, “ki maar pitai sirf gareeb auraton ke hi pati karte hai”, “ki educated aadmi kabhi haath nahi uthata”, and the women who tell their daughters-in-law “koi baat nahi beta aisa to humare saath bhi hua lekin dekho aaj kitne khush hai”.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, “Thappad” is about domestic violence and how one woman tries to file for divorce after her husband slaps her in front of a large group of people for the first time.
“Thappad”, starring Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Kumud Mishra and Manav Kaul, will hit screens on February 28.
