Chennai: Filmmaker, actor and cinematographer Velu Prabhakaran was arrested on Friday for his alleged speech denigrating Kanda Shasti Kavacham – the prayer seeking the blessings of Hindu God Murugan, Hinduism and Hindus on a web portal.

He had also spoken in support of the Karuppar Koottam, a YouTube channel that aired a video denigrating Lord Murugan and Kanda Shasti Kavacham.

The complaint against Prabhakaran was lodged by K.S. Sivaji of Bharat Munnani, alleging that he had slandered Hinduism and Hindus.

Police had also arrested Sentil Vasan and Sundara Natarajan, who were associated with the controversial YouTube channel, on a complaint from the state BJP.
