New Delhi: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who only yesterday questioned why his citizenship was being dragged into public discussion, once again became the target of social media trolls, after a video of him saying “Toronto is my home” surfaced.
On Friday, May 3, Kumar had stated in a tweet, “I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India.
“While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others.
“Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.”
It was to this tweet that Twitter user Tarique Anwer replied with an old video of Akshay Kumar, wherein the latter revealed his retirement plan. In the video, Kumar, who was apparently in Toronto at the time, can be heard saying, “I must tell you one thing, This is my home. Toronto is my home. After I retire from this industry, I’m going to come back here and stay here.”
