Dharwad: Members of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI-Communist) held protest in here against the firing on farmers in Madhya Pradesh and also to press for various demands of farmers, on the occasion of All India Demand’s Day on Wednesday.
The protest was held at Vivekanand Circle wherein the members demanded the government to announce loan waiver schemes, fix scientific price for agricultural crops, initiate process to avoid farmers’ suicide and Rs 5 Lakh compensation to the kin of farmers who committed suicide among others.
Addressing protesters, Raita Krishi Karmika Sanghatane (RKS) District Convener H G Desai said the MP government had committed a heinous crime on farmers by killing six of them who were protesting for their just demands.
“This incident of killing must be widely condemned. The successive governments have failed to respond to farmers’ problems and are following anti-farmer policies which must be opposed by formulating constructive struggles,” he said.
SUCI District Committee Member Gangadhar Badiger alleged that the Centre which has waived off loans of corporate houses worth Rs. 6.5 Lakh Crore in three years, was denying to respond to the farmers’ plea of loan waiver. It shows its anti-farmer policy, he said while asking people to support farming community in all their struggles.
SUCI Member Lakshman Jadagannavar presided over. SUCI members, farmers and general public were present.
