Smart policing: Police introduce ‘No Helmet No Petrol’ rule in twin cities-1Dharwad: Considering the rise in the number of road accidents and related deaths, the Hubballi Police have planned to introduce "No Helmet No Petrol" from March 1.

Police are hopeful that the new rule will ensure all motorcyclists abide by the helmet rule strictly and help in minimising casualties. Those approaching petrol refuelling stations without helmets will be denied fuel as per the new rule.

To make the rule tick, police will keep tab on CCTV footages at all petrol bunks and will carry out periodic checks to ensure its implementation.

“Making helmets mandatory has worked but creating awareness is a long drawn process. We have to find new ways to ensure effective and total implementation of helmet rule. It is important to bring in new ideas and make them work", said Nemgoud, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and traffic)

A meeting has already taken place and the guidelines related to the new "No Helmet No Petrol" will be issued shortly, he added.
