Dharwad: The students from various colleges under the aegis of National Students Union of India (NSUI), took out a protest rally in Dharwad on September 15, condemning the killing of activist, journalist Gauri Lankesh.
The students’ rally which began from Kadapa Maidan, went through the main streets of the city raising slogans against the murderers before reaching the deputy commissioner’s office where they staged a sit-in protest.
The protesters stated that this was not a crime against one person but a direct attack on democracy. Recent killings of rationalists and activists, has shamed the entire society and is igniting fear among the people. The vested interests are trying to create a fearsome atmosphere by killing innocent people on their ideologies, they said.
The state and the union governments should not take this murder lightly but make all efforts to nab the assailants at the earliest and initiate strict legal action, they demanded.
The protest was led by Fairoz Pathan, Abdul Gani, Vinayak Badiger, Wasim Khaji, Manjunath Neelgund, Wasim Hukkeri and others.
