No progress in Kalburgi’s killing; son to meet CM

Dharwad: While the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been clueless about the killing of Dr MM Kalburgi, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants at his house in Kalyan Nagar, Kalburgi’ son has now decided to meet the CM.

Kalburgi’s son Srivijaya said, “The CID has spent almost a week in investigation, but has found no clues. Now, it should expedite the investigation. If there is any more delay, there are chances that evidence may get destroyed and the case may get murkier.”

He further said, “I will wait for another five to six days. If the CID does not get any clues, then I will meet the chief minister along with some litterateurs, writers and activists after September 13.”

He said people have advised him to file a PIL in the court seeking an investigation under the observation of the court. “I have not yet decided about it. I will take the decision on this after meeting the CM,” he added.

A team of CID sleuths headed by SP DC Rajappa has been camping in Dharwad for a week, while some more teams were dispatched to Kolhapur, Vijayapura, Belagavi, and other parts of North Karnataka.

The CID team has questioned the family, relatives, friends and neighbours of Kalburgi and also looked into property disputes besides issues he faced when he was president of Basavaraj Kattimani Pratishtana. However, the CID is said to have failed to make any headway in the case.

Asked about the probe, a CID officer said, “We are close to achieving a breakthrough. We will solve this case soon.”
