Dharwad: “There is no dearth of funds for supply of water to any corner of the district in summer season. However, water must be used economically and awareness programmes on water usage organised in rural areas”, said District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni.

Presiding over a progress review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) here at DC office on Tuesday, Minister Kulkarni said the government had enough funds to quench the thirst of the people in summer. Officials must ensure good supply of water to people and cattle, he added.

Awareness programmes on water usage and prevention of its wastage must be held and the public representatives must co-ordinate with the administration in meeting the demands of people, he said.

Kulkarni also asked DC Dr. S B Bommanahalli to write a letter to Belagavi Regional Commissioner seeking him to release more water to the Malaprabha Right Bank Canal to help farmers. He also asked officials to extract more work under MNREGS and help daily wage labourers get more work under the scheme.

Both Minister Kulkarni and MP Pralhad Joshi expressed displeasure over banking facilities being given to farmers.

MLAs N H Konreddy, C S Shivalli, MLC Basavaraj Horatti, District In-charge Secretary P Manivannan, SP Dharmendrakumar Meena and others were present.
