Dharwad: District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni has assured the residents of Mantur village in Hubballi taluk, who have lost their houses due to the overflowing tank, of providing alternative shelters.
Accompanied by the former Minister and MLC Basavaraj Horatti, president of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Chaitra Shirur and officials, Kulkarni paid a visit to the gruel centre and the temporary shelter provided for the displaced people.
Due to excessive rainfall in the last few days, Mantur tank, which filled to the brim, overflowed causing heavy damage to 33 houses in the village.
Floodwaters and excessive rainfall have also caused partial damage to 136 houses in Mantur village located on the outskirts of Hubballi.
The minister interacted with the displaced people and assured them of providing alternative shelter through Ashraya housing scheme. After hearing the grievances of the women at the temporary shelter, Kulkarni told them that if private individuals came forward to give land, the government would purchase it and build houses on it for the affected people.
Basavaraj Horatti also consoled the affected people and assured them of necessary help.
Earlier, along with Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli, Superintendent of Police Sangeeta, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Kharjagi, Hubballi Tahsildar Shashidhar Madyal, minister and others visited places affected by floodwaters in the village.
