Dharwad: Minister In-charge of the district Vinay Kulkarni has stressed on the need to lay emphasis on celebrating the Ganesha festival in an eco-friendly manner and see to it that the water bodies and air are not polluted.
Speaking at a peace meeting organised at the Town Police Station in Dharwad ahead of the Ganesh festival, Vinay said the Ganesh Idol Installation Committee members have to take prior permission from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and aim to ensure eco-friendly idols.
He appealed to the people to cooperate with the police while taking out processions.
Anjuman-e-Islam Society President Ismail Tamatgar said the people of Dharwad were peace lovers and the city had a history of celebrating festivals in unity by all communities.
He hailed the police for organising the peace meeting and urged the people to maintain harmony in society.
Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj, corporators Subhash Shinde, Sanjay Kapatkar, and others were present.
