Dharwad: The centenary celebrations of the Karnatak College, Dharwad began here on November 25. Supreme Court Judge Mohan Shantangoudar, who inaugurated the centenary celebrations, asked the students not to chose a shortcut for success, instead adopt hard work, honesty and humanity for a successful career in their life.

He also asked the youth to perform their duties well in order to get recognition from the society and added that choosing the right path was the key to true success, and not the money they earn.

He recalled having studied PU Science and BSc at KCD between 1972 and 1977. “Getting a seat in this college was considered a matter of prestige as it had several eminent teachers who always inspired students to take up daunting tasks in their career and climb up the educational ladder”, he said.

ISRO Chairman Dr. Kiran Kumar stated that there was a need to create an education-friendly environment in order to bring out the best minds. “Today, a large number of students are migrating to the USA and Europe for higher studies. If we focus on developing our educational field, we can attract and retain the best minds in our country”, he said, adding that there was also a need to develop the technology needed to solve the basic problems of the society.

Earlier, Justice Shantangoudar laid the foundation stone for the construction of the classroom complex and also planted a sapling to mark the centenary celebration.

Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi, RDPR Minister H K Patil, MLC V S Sankanoor, MLA Arvind Bellad, KU Vice Chancellor Pramod Gai, Gulbarga Central University VC Maheshwaraiah, Dr. Patil Puttappa, Nadoja Channaveer Kanavi and the faculty of KCD were present at the event.
