Dharwad: It is the bounden duty of both the State and the Centre to safeguard the interest of Khadi sector, which was the reason for coordinated struggle for freedom, said RDPR Minister H K Patil.
Speaking after inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebrations of Dharwad Taluk Seva Sangha, here on August 8, Patil said Khadi sector should be supported financially for its development. The Sangha founded by great freedom fighters of the region Dr. Ramrao Hukkerikar, Dr. Narayan Kabbur among others has completed 60 years of its service. Khadi industry is in need of financial support on par with other industries, he said.
He said around 75 percent of villages had been covered under Swacch Bharat toilet building programme . The remaining 25 percent would be covered in six months, he added.
MLC Basavaraj Horatti said the work pertaining to development of Khadi industry should be undertaken by heart and not as a task.
Freedom fighters, weavers were honoured on the occasion.
President of Gandhi Shanti Pratisthan Prof. K S Bhasme presided over.
