Dharwad: The members of district BJP Raitha Morcha who staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday demanded the government to release the due amount towards procurement of onion under Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers.

The protesters also urged the government to open Goshalas (cattle houses) in rural areas following drought situation in the district.

District BJP Raitha Morcha President Aravind Yeganagoudar said farmers who sold onion crop under MSP had been waiting for the payment since three months. “If they had sold the crop to middlemen they would have got the money within 15 days. Government must understand this concern and release the amount soon,” he explained.

Morcha’s City District President Nagesh Kalaburgi and former MLA Seema Masuti urged the government to open Goshalas in rural areas and help farmers to feed their cattle.

A memorandum was submitted to the district administration in this regard.
