Hubballi: The state government has decided to upgrade the Government Civil Hospital in Dharwad into a 250-bed super speciality hospital, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare K R Ramesh Kumar.
Chairing an officials’ meeting convened to review the Health Department’s schemes in Hubballi, Ramesh Kumar said the hospital in Dharwad was catering to the health requirements of large sections of poor people in Dharwad and the neighbouring districts.
Moreover, since the patient inflow at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is increasing daily, the District Civil Hospital in Dharwad deserves to be upgraded into a super speciality hospital, he said.
The government will roll out a Universal Health Coverage scheme for all people in the State on November 1, he announced.
Under this initiative, people possessing Aadhaar card can use the benefits of medical services irrespective of their economic status in government hospitals.
The government has started the process of installing dialyses units at 176 taluk-level, government hospitals across the State. These units will be made functional by November 1, the Karnataka Statehood Day, he added.
He also said that the Government was contemplating convening a one day special session of the State Legislature to pass the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and the date would be announced shortly.
The report would be submitted to Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad soon and his permission sought to convene a one day special session to pass the Bill, he added.
