Dharwad: The members of the state unit of Raita Sena Karnataka and Hasiru Sene who had gathered in thousands of numbers at mini Vidhana Soudha in Dharwad sent their applications en masse seeking loan waiver from both the State and the Centre.
The district administration had made arrangements to receive forms filled up by farmers to be sent to the respective governments. Elaborate security arrangement too was in place inview of the large gathering of farmers at mini Vidhan Soudha.
Farmer leaders Raita Sena Karnataka head Kodihalli Chandrashekhar and district president who addressed the farmers put forth various demands and warned respective governments of taking serious actions if they failed to comply with their needs.
Their demands included providing price security on crops based on Dr. Swaminathan’s report, providing irrigation facilities to all regions, preventing financial institutions from recovering farm loans and waiving off all kinds of farm loans borrowed by farmers, announcing scientific support price for maize, cotton, paddy among other crops, waiving off loans taken from nationalised banks, giving freedom to Agriculture Price Commission, besides pledging more amount for rural development among others.
District presidents, farmer leaders from across the state had participated.
Later, a memorandum was handed over to Deputy Commissioner Dr. S B Bommanahalli on the occasion.
