Dharwad: old is a well known status sybol and the wealthy tend to flaunt their wealth by having ordinary items gold pated. One Dharwad youth’s love for his bike prompted him to coat his Royal Enfield bike with gold.
Basappa Kallur, a graduate and farmer of the Hiremalligavada village in Dharwad taluk is the youth who coated his bike with gold. He spent a whopping Rs 2 lakhs for this purpose.
The bike has an interesting story. Kallur, who is not affluent, bought the bike second hand four years ago. It is a 1984 550 CC model. His favourite hobby is decorating and riding his bike. Recently a few of his friends gave him the idea coat his bike with gold, and he did so by spending Rs 2 lakhs.
Kallur informed that he spent around Rs1.5 lakh alone on the bike’s engine repair. “Bike riding is my favourite hobby. That is why I am doing all this,” he says.
