CRPF Jawan Manjunath laid to rest with full state honours

Dharwad: The mortal remains of CRPF Jawan Manjunath S Jakkannavar, who was killed in a naxal ambush on the border of Chattisgarh and Maharashtra on November 26, was laid to rest at his native village Managundi in Dharwad district with full state honours on November 28.

The body of the slain soldier was brought to the district stadium at 10.30 AM, where Deputy Commisssioner Dr. S B Bommanahalli paid floral tributes to the body surrounded by school children and citizens. After sometime, the body was taken to his native village Managundi where the villagers received the body raising slogans on the martyrdom of the soldier.

As the mortal remains of Manjunath arrived in an army truck, people waived the tri-colour and shouted slogans such as “Manjunath Amar Rahe” and “Manjunath-Tiger of Mangundi.”

The body was placed at his house for some time, where the deceased’s father Shivalingappa, mother Ratnavva, wife Lalita and his children Ganesh and Lakshmi paid their respects amid inconsolable sorrow.

Later, the mortal remains were placed for public darshan at the government primary school campus in the village where the police offered the salute by firing three rounds in the air.
Three rounds were fired in the air and the police band played the National Anthem before the burial took place. Later CRPF personnel handed over the uniform of the martyred soldier to his wife.

Minister Santosh Lad, MP Pralhad Joshi, SP Sangeeta, CRPF DIG B S Gujral, Cobra commando Vasanth Thapa, seers and thousands of people paid their last respects.
