Dharwad: The state government, Karnataka State Olympics Association (KSOA) and district administration have finally announced compensation to the family of Wrestler Santosh Hosamani who died of injuries during State Olympics Meet held in Dharwad recently.
The wrestler’s right leg bone was broken during a wrestling match at the sports meet and though he was treated at a private hospital he could not recover. Later, he was declared dead due to heart attack.
On Wednesday, District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni, Labour Minister Santosh Lad visited the family of the late wrestler at Chikkamalligwad village on the outskirts of Dharwad city and handed over the compensation cheques of Rs 6 Lakh by state government and Rs. 2 Lakh by KSOA.
Ministers who spoke to the parents and brothers of Santosh assured of more help from the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Santosh Lad announced to give Rs. 5 Lakh personally to the family of wrestler.
A “Garadi Mane” would be constructed in the village which will be named after Santosh Hosamani, said Minister Lad. Deputy Commissioner Dr. S B Bommanahalli said Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation would soon handover Rs. 2 Lakh compensation to the family.
