Dharwad: The High Court Bar Association has decided to block the national highway on November 10, if the government failed to initiate action against the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Major (Rtd) Siddalingayya Hiremath by the same day.
A decision regarding this was taken at a meeting in Dharwad, against the backdrop of Hiremath filing a complaint against one of the advocates, which resulted in him (the advocate) being “confined illegally” in jail.
The advocates claimed that Hiremath was involved in a verbal duel with High Court advocate Santosh Nargund, who had gone to the former’s house to petition against irregularities in the renovation work of Hubballi swimming pool.
They also claimed that the commissioner abused and threatened Santosh and the others.
They demanded that Hiremath be suspended from his post for misbehaving with a citizen and prosecuted for his crime.
They also demanded action against the Hubballi Sub-urban Police Station In-charge for the “illegal confinement” of the advocate from 7 AM, after the complaint was given earlier at 2:30 pm.
“The police officials can’t discriminate against Santosh but not taking action against the commissioner based on Santosh’s complaint is bad,” said Association President R D Desai adding that if the police failed to initiate action against the HDMC commissioner by Friday, they would be forced to block the national highway for more than half-an-hour.”
