Davangere: A temple has been constructed to honour the memory of a deceased male monkey in the SVR Colony, in Davangere’s Channagiri taluk. The monkey, who died due to unknown reasons, was laid to rest by locals who performed the final rites as per Hindu traditions.

Speaking to ANI, locals said that a group of monkeys had entered the SVR Colony three months ago and would play with the children in the area. Soon, the residents also grew fond of the monkeys as they rarely caused them any trouble.

However, when one of the monkeys suddenly died on Wednesday, January 7, the locals decided to showcase their love for the animal by constructing a temple at the same spot where the monkey had passed away.

Although residents have only built a makeshift temple on the designated site, they have approached the village Panchayat to allot funds so that a more concrete structure can be set up at the site.
