State reports 14 new COVID-19 cases including one death; Tally now 673, toll is 29

Davanagere: The state reported 14 fresh COVID-19 cases and another death on Tuesday, May 5 evening. This brings the state’s tally up to 673 and death toll to 29.

Earlier in the day, eight people tested positive for the disease and one death was reported from Vijayapura.

The most recent death has been reported from the Davanagere district. Identified as Patient 662 by the state health department, the 50-year-old woman had complaints of breathlessness (diagnosed as severe acute respiratory illness) died on Tuesday, May 5 at a designated hospital in the district.

Additionally, of the 14 cases that were reported in the district, 12 (including one death) have been reported from the Davanagere district. The list includes a 5-month-old baby boy. As many as seven of the cases are contacts of Patient 581 and the rest are contacts (two of them being secondary contacts) of Patient 556.

Of the two remaining cases, one is a 40-year-old man (contact of Patient 639) from Savanur in the Haveri district and the other is a 26-year-old woman (travel history to Mumbai) from Dharwad.

As many as 331 people have been discharged so far, while six people are being treated in ICUs across the state.
