Davanagere: Just a day after apologising for his behaviour with Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Panchamasali Mutt seer Vachanananda has backtracked his words.

It may be recalled that the CM was raged when the seer said that the sect will stop supporting him if he fails to give a cabinet berth to at least three leaders from the sect, including BJP leader Murugesh Nirani.

Responding to this, the CM openly threatened to leave the programme if someone tries to arm-twist him.

Following the incident, several BJP leaders and other seers, hit back at the Panchamasali Swamiji and said that it was unbecoming of a pontiff to behave in such a manner.

However, after receiving support from Congress leaders D K Shivakumar and Eshwar Khandre and even a Valmiki spiritual leader, seer Vachanananda has justified his actions during the public event.

“When he (BSY) came to our Mutt for the first time, we informed him that he needs to make him (Murugesh Nirani) a minister for the sake of our community. He did not take us seriously then. He did not even react. We reminded him for the second time when we went to invite him to the event. He neglected us even then, We informed him for the third time when he sat on the stage. Even then he did not respond to us. We were forced to tell him in front of the public because he had neglected us. We were not being selfish,” the pontiff explained.

“The Panchamasali community has given 13 MLAs to the government. Our community helped five MLAs win the elections in the recent by-polls,” he added.

It can be recalled that the seer had apologised for threatening the CM on Wednesday, after receiving backlash from politicians and members of his own community.
