Davangere: In order to make the district ‘smarter’, cleaner and eco-friendly, the district administration, under the ‘Smart City’ project, has decided to ban petrol and diesel auto-rickshaws in Davangere city.
The city already has several LPG-run auto rickshaws, however, the ones that run on petrol and diesel are more in number. According to reports, during a meeting of the ‘Smart City’ project held recently, a decision was collectively taken to ban petrol and diesel rickshaws.
The rickshaw drivers are now left with no other option but to switch on to LPG or CNG.
As per the plans under the ‘Smart City’ project, electric rickshaws have also been launched, which will be provided at a subsidized rate.
The Davangere City Corporation has decided to move diesel and petrol auto rickshaws out of its limits.
