Silver Jubilee of ‘Adoration Monastery’ to be held on Nov 22

Mangaluru: The Silver Jubilee of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, Mangaluru will be held at the Adoration Monastery on November 22, announced Fr. Melwyn D’Souza of St. Anne’s Friary here at the press meet held on November 20.

Udupi diocese and Mangaluru diocese bishops will celebrate jubilee mass on November 22 at the Monastery. On the occasion of silver jubilee, on Wednesday November 22, adoration will be held from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The logo of the silver jubilee celebration was launched and CD documentary on the Adoration Monastery was also released on the occasion. Superior Mother Mary Stella, Mary Margaret, Sr. Rita of Ursuline Franciscan congregation, Elias Fernandes were present at the press meet.

Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, cloistered contemplatives belonging to the second order of St. Francis of Assisi was founded with St. Clare of Assisi in the year 1922.  The nuns here at the Monastery are dependent on the charity of people for their survival. They take prayer petitions from people and intercede on their behalf. Without having married, they live within the four walls with total dedication to God. “We have dedicated our lives to perpetual adoration 24 hours, day and night, praising and thanking God, presenting the entire humanity before Him and interceding on behalf of all who are in sorrow and distress. We leave family and all other worldly pleasures. There is no going back, even if our parents and loved ones are sick or dead, we do not visit. We are satisfied and pray for the world”, said Superior Mother Mary Stella.

The worship place called the “Sister of Poor Clare’s ‘Adoration Monastery’ or the Adoration Monastery was attacked by a group of right wing activists on 14 September 2008 in retaliation to the forced conversion allegations. The house has kept the broken pieces of glass, torn books and the broken Jesus Christ Cross as a reminder to the events and are still fresh in the memory of believers. However, “the case has been closed,” said Superior Mother Mary Stella.
