Mangaluru: Three nuns Sr. Anitha Shaila Veigas, Sr. Priya Mariette Pinto and Sr. Sujatha D’Souza, of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity of Mangaluru Province made their perpetual profession on 21 November, at Guardian Angel Church, Angelore. It was a significant day of commemoration of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and day of foundation (21.11.1832) of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa. Also on this day, 21 sisters from Asia and Africa made their final commitment.
Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore officiated the Holy Eucharist along with, Fr. William Menezes, Parish Priest and other priests. Bishop preached a meaningful homily about religious life and its three-fold mission: Prophetic, Priestly and Pastoral.
Sr. Matilda Monteiro, the Provincial Superior accepted the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience made by the three Sisters in the name of the Church. Then each Sister was given a Crucifix as a symbol of the permanent membership in the religious community. During the Litany of Supplication, all implored the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints, while asking God to pour out his mercy upon the Sisters so that they might be forever strengthened in their religious vocation. This solemn celebration was witnessed by their parents, relatives, Sisters of the province, well-wishers and friends.
The three sisters were felicitated after Mass. Sr. Matilda Monteiro in her felicitation message thanked the parents of the three Sisters for their generosity and asked the Sisters to live up to their commitment according to the charism of the Congregation by becoming the visible sign of God’s merciful love in today’s world. Sr. Nancy Mathias compered the programme.
