Mangaluru: The annual feast of Our Lady of Pompei Shrine, Urwa, will be celebrated on Sunday, December 10 evening. The annual feast this year is themed “not giving up meeting together”, a verse taken from letter to Hebrews 10:25 of the gospel.
Briefing about the festival to the media, Fr. Stany Pereira, parish priest said, “The solemn festal Eucharistic Mass will be offered by Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza along with several priests from the nearby deaneries at 5.30 PM. Soon after the Holy Mass, a procession will go through the main roads within the parish limits.”
On the feast day on December 10, holy masses and special prayers are scheduled at 5.45 AM, 7.15 AM and 9 AM. The last morning mass at 10.15 AM will be offered for special intentions of all the sick and the suffering.
Thousands of devotees irrespective of caste, creed and religion throng the shrine to thank Our Lady of Pompei for her benevolence. The parishioners and others from neighbouring parishes attend services on regular basis and the devotion to Our Lady of Pompei, Urwa is 120 years old.
