Udupi: The Solemnity of Mother, the Holy Mother of God and Vigil of New Year Eve celebrated with devotion at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of Diocese of Udupi here on Monday, 31st December 2018.
The evening liturgy began with adoration hour of the Holy Sacrament from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm led by Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, Asst. Parish priest of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur
Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo concelebrated the Solemn High Mass with Rev Fr. Dr Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes, SJ, Principal of Milagres English Schools and Rev Fr. Jossy Mascarenhas Vocational Promotor of Pilar Fathers’ Mini Seminary, Kallianpur.
In his homily, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes SJ pointed out the change of spiritual attitude of our life through Mother Mary. We firmly believe in the incarnation of our Lord, Mary. Mother Mary consents to God’s invitation conveyed by the angel. Mother Mary’s role as Mother of God places her in unique in God’s redemptive plan. The angel of God has given the introduction of Mary and Mother Mary is a role model for her devotees.
He said we should change our attitude for a better life in years to come. Without sorrows and difficulties, there is no life. We need a better life with new thinking through Mother Mary. We should look forward to a new future with a change in our attitude spiritually. Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. We desire a radical change in our attitude in the way we look, the way we behave, the way we make our living, he said.
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, Rector of the Cathedral Rev Fr. Dr Lawrence D’Souza gave gratitude to Bishop, priests and all concerned for the grand celebration of Vigil of new year eve and conveyed wishes on the occasion of New Year 2019.
Bishop Gerald later honoured the main sponsor of the celebration with handing over a decorated candle. Later Bishop unveiled the logo of “Youth Year 2K19”, Diocese of Udupi. Rev Fr. Canute Noronha placed the meaning and contents of Youth Year logo.
Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo conveyed his New Year 2019 massage to catholic faiths of the diocese and the Cathedral. He pointed out the importance of Youth Year celebrations in the diocese.
Bishop along with the priests and others cut the New Year cake on the occasion of New Year 2019 led by YCS, Milagres unit. Earlier, Bishop and Rector released the light contained Lenten into the sky. Housie game conducted by the YCS members and Fr. Canute Noronha distributed prizes for the winners. The full house prize won by Collin D’Souza, wife of this reporter.
