Milagres Cathedral of Udupi Diocese celebrates annual feast with devotion and fervour

Udupi: The Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur celebrated its annual feast with devotion and fervor on Wednesday, January 18.
On the occasion of annual parish feast “Wodle Festh”, every head of the families, donors and benefactors’ were honoured with a special candle by the rector of the cathedral. The priests along with the brass band and Ozwald Cornelio and family which sponsored the cost of brass band for three days, took out a procession from Vicar’s house and entered the church through the main door of the cathedral.

Rev Fr. Lawrence C D’ Souza, Secretary of Catholic Education Society of Udupi diocese, was the chief celebrant of the solemn mass with 23 priests from deanery, neighbouring priests, parishioner priests and former priests of the church.

Introducing the theme of the annual feast “Devachem Uthar Mariyesanghi Niyalyam”, Fr. Lawrence, in his homily said that God’s word was so powerful that He comes to us and speaks to us in person. His words never come to an end. He called on all to make it a practice to read the Words of God in Bible and establish a bridge with God. He asked the gathering to seek Mother Mary’s help to strengthen the faith in God. “The Word of God is the mightiest of weapons. The Word of God would save families provided they make it the centre of their lives”, he concluded.

The choir trained by Rev Fr. Roshan Capuchin enhanced the solemnity of the annual feast mass with melodious hymns supported by keyboard player Manisha D’Souza.

Five Close Circuit Televisions were installed inside and outside the cathedral for the benefit the faithful. Ozwald Cornelio family was honoured for sponsoring the celebrations, with special decorated candles at the end of the solemn mass by chief celebrant of the mass Rev Fr. Lawrence D’Souza.

Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, at the end of the mass, conveyed greetings of the annual parish feast to all parishioners and expressed gratitude to Fr. Lawrence D’Souza for concelebrating the annual parish feast as the chief celebrant and delivering a beautiful and meaningful homily. He also expressed gratitude to all the concerned including parish pastoral council members, heads of educational institutions, superiors of convents, teachers and parish associations.

On behalf of the priests, Fr. Lawrence thanked the parish rector, priests and faithful and conveyed his wishes to them.

Parish youth handled the stalls and Fr. Stany B Lobo picked the lucky number ticket for “Big fighter Cock” (Combo) contest which was held for Alter Boys. Large number of devotees of Milagres Amma offered lit the candles for Our Lady of Miracles. Since three centuries most of the other religious faithful of Milagres have also been offering candles every year during the annual feast.
