Mangaluru: Yakshagana Arthdaari artiste Jabbar Samo Sampaje has been selected for Sullia Vanaja Rangamane Award given under the auspices Rangamane Samskrutika Kala Kendra (R), Sullia and by Director Jeevan Ram Sullia in memory of his late mother.
The award will be presented to Jabbar at a ceremony in Yakshasambhrama on Sunday August 22. The award will include a plaque, souvenir and cash prize of Rs 10,000.
For the last 35 years, Jabbar has been an Arthadaari and performer of Yakshagana art form. He served Sericulture Department for 28 years and has taken a voluntary retirement. He is one of the most well known Yakshagana artiste of Dakshina Kannada with amazing communication skills. Shukracharya, Vali, Sugriva, Ravana, Angada, Indrajith, Veeramani, Arjuna, Karna, Bhima, Kaurava, and Bhishma are the varied roles he has donned as an Arthadaari.
Jabbar, who has performed Yakshagana arthagaarike in Kannada, Tulu and Arebhashe has an immense fan following across the world among Yakshagana lovers due to his eloquent speech, clarity in language, voice modulation, appropriate handlin of characters’ emotions and great presence of mind.
