ICYM Udupi diocese holds “Yuva Sangam 2018” – Express, Redefine your Rights

Udupi: “Express”, ‘Redefine your Rights’, a conference of the panellists of “YUVA SAMAGAM – 2018” was organized by ICYM Diocese Council at St, Joseph Church premises, Belman on September 12 and 13.

The programme commenced on Wednesday, September 12, with a prayer session conducted by Rev Fr. Reginald Pinto and Derick Mascarenhas. Thereafter, various interactive activities were organised for the 40 panellists from various ICYM units of the Diocese by Fr. Kiran Nazareth, Director of ICYM Shirva Deanery.

During the ‘See and Say’ session that was held afterwards, videos of the speech of well-known activists were displayed and debates, discussions and views about various issues were presented by the youth. This session was organized by Oniel Andrade, Spokesperson, ICYM Karnataka Region.

After this, Fr. Franklin D’Souza, famous charismatic preacher and Janet Barboza, Diocese President of women’s association addressed the gathering.

On Thursday, September 13, interactive sessions were held on the Indian Constitution and Human Rights with well-known activists and resource persons namely, Francis D’Cunha, Sreeram Devan, Pramanand Kalmady, G. Rajashekar and Jayan Malpe.

Francis D’Cunha spoke on the topic ‘Me and My Constitution’ where he elaborated on the fundamental rights and duties of an Indian citizen. He also encouraged the youth to come forward and appeal to the government when there is injustice.

In his speech, Sreeram Diwan spoke about moving on the right path and speaking up for truth and justice. He instilled confidence in the youth to oppose wrong ideologies that build up to ruin the Constitution of India and how to raise their voices against it.

G. Rajashekar spoke about the history and formation of the Indian Constitution and how Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s life was closely related to it.

Jayan Malpe, during his speech, said that in the present society falsehood is prevailing over the truth. He spoke about why we need to love and build relationships in our neighbourhood and what is the best way of spreading the truth.

Soon after, there was an interactive session where many questions were asked by the participants and other matters were discussed. Many of the audience also presented their personal views on the topics discussed.

Dion D’Souza, president, ICYM Udupi Diocese concluded the session with a speech where he mentioned that leadership is not about personal pride, but making a difference in someone else’s life. It’s time for the youth of the Diocese to take more initiative and work in the society to build a stronger community. “We the youth of India have the right to ‘Express’ our views and no one can stop us.”

Dr Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College was present on both the days and motivated the youth with his guidance.

Rev Fr. Edwin D’Souza, Director of the Youth Commission, Diocese of Udupi addressed the youth and thanked each and everyone.
