Blood donation is one of the greatest donations a person can give to another person. During the current coronavirus pandemic shortage of blood was a big challenge to the doctors and nursing staff. There were very few donors who were willing to donate blood during the Covid period. But the Red Drop campaign held by ICYM relentlessly supplied blood donors during the pandemic.
This campaign is managed through a mobile application called Red Drop Mangalore. It identifies various beneficiaries and makes them reach the blood donors. This scheme is in action for the past five years. But during the lockdown, this is used more effectively through a mobile application. More than 10 to 15 youths donate blood through Red Drop.
Red Drop Mangalore is a project of the ICYM Mangalore diocese. Director Fr Ashwin Cardoza, President Leon Saldanha, Secretary Veena Vas, PRO Minol Braggs and Praveen Crasta are in the team which is doing commendable work for this project.
Red Drop wishes all the blood donors on World Blood Donors’ Day which is celebrated on June 14 and invites many more to join this noble work.
