Chitradurga: A few weeks ago, the Karnataka Police discovered a marijuana cultivation and distribution racket in Rampura of the Chitradurga district where they seized 9,872 kilograms of the drug worth Rs 4.2 crores.
Three persons were arrested in this connection although the prime suspect Rudresh, who was cultivating marijuana on land he rented from three brothers in Chitradurga, is yet to be tracked by the police.
According to a report by TNM, the Rampura Police were tipped-off about the cannabis cultivation after Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi’s arrest. When a constable named Gundappa reached the spot, locals took him to a four-acre plot of land and the police found cannabis plants growing up to 4 ft on the entire plot.
After Chitradurga Superintendent of Police G Radhika was called to the spot, the plants were cut down and loaded it into trucks as evidence.
The plot belongs to three brothers, residents of Rampura, DB Manjunath, Y Manjunath, and DY Manjunath, who have now been arrested by the police. They had allegedly leased their land to a man named Rudresh based on a verbal agreement. Rudresh was to pay them Rs 90,000 a month as rent.
According to the police the brothers claim to have no knowledge of the ganja cultivation. The person who put them in contact with Rudresh, Samanthagouda has also been arrested.
The police suspect that Rudresh has been cultivating the crop for a while and transporting it to districts across Karnataka. They are currently on the lookout for Rudresh.
