Chithradurga: A puerperal woman and three others met their tragic end after the ambulance in which they were plying was crushed by an Express train, at Thalaku village of Challakere taluk.Chandrakala Bhande was returning home in Thimmapura along with her seven-day-old child and family members in the ambulance when the incident took place.
It is said that the ambulance driver was in a haste to cross the unmanned railway crossing leading to the gruesome mishap.
Due to the collision, the ambulance was thrown 50 mts away, into a gorge. While Chandrakala and three others died, her seven-day-old baby has survived.
Savithramma, Gangamma and Lakshmamma are the other deceased.
Ambulance driver Shivareddi’s negligence is said to be the reason behind the mishap. He has been injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment. Chandrakala’s mother Kadiramma too has suffered injuries.
Case has been registered.
