Chitradurga: “Politicians are opportunists. Narendra Modi is a good example for this,” said former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde here in Chitradurga on August 2 commenting on I-T raids on the properties of Minister D K Shiva Kumar.
“There is a urgent need to implement Lokpal Bill. It was brought in to remove corruption. When I was Lokayukta, I had named three chief ministers and 9 ministers in my report but there was no investigation into it. Congress has formed ACB which has snatched the rights of Lokayukta. There have been agitations to implement Jan Lokpal Bill since 2013. Modi who promised to pass Lokpal Bill is silent now,” he said.
Commenting on Operation Lotus in Gujarat, Hegde said, “Horse trading in politics is condemnable and it is a crime. But today every politician is involved in it. It was first started by BJP leaders and now it is being continued by Congress too. There is a constant attempt to shun opposition parties by the governments today. It will not continue for many days. People will definitely answer one day.”
“Search for ill-rotten wealth during I-T raids on Minister Shiva Kumar is not wrong. But it is wrong if it is politically motivated. Here in this case, there are lot of doubts regarding the raid. If I-T had prior information it should have raided long back. CBI, ED and other such watchdogs must have no interference from government and politics,” he added.
