Chitradurga district to receive national-level MGNREGA award from PM today

Chitradurga: The district will receive national award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementation of work under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) today, Tuesday, February 2.

Chitradurga district has been selected for a national award by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, MNREGA division, for successful recharge of defunct borewells in all six taluks of the district. During the present financial year, the district administration successfully recharged 1,506 defunct borewells of the total 3,783 identified as defunct in the six taluks of the district.

Other districts chosen for the award include YSR district in Andhra Pradesh, Chitradurga in Karnataka, Tiruvallur and Pudukotta districts in Tamil Nadu, Nizamabad district Telangana, Dhalai and Gomati district in Tripura and North 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal.

In a letter sent to the State government on Friday, the Ministry has directed that a representative of the State, especially Principal Secretary, be present at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the day to receive the award.

The committee constituted by the ministry to review the implementation of the works under MNREGA had visited the district in the first week of January and shortlisted it for the award after a detailed survey.
