Chikkaballapur: A herd of wild elephants killed two persons- a forest department staff and a farmer in Notave village in Malur taluk of the Chikkaballapura district.
The incident happened while the farmers and the forest department staff were busy chasing the herd back in to the forest.
The deceased have been identified as G Muniyappa, a forest department staff and K Ananadiah, a local farmer.
According to the villagers, for the last few days, the herd of elephants was moving in the village in search of water.
On Monday evening, when the forest department staff and locals were trying to chase them back, a tusker attacked these two. Both of them died in the attack on the spot.
State forest minister Anand Singh announced a compensation of Rs.7.5 lakhs to the family of both deceased and assured a permanent solution for the wild elephant menace in the forest buffer zone.
