Chikkaballapura: The death toll in the Gangamma temple tragedy, near Chintamani in the Chikkaballapura district, has gone up by one more, bringing the total to two. At least 11 others have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

As per the officials, the deceased have been identified as Kavitha (28) and Saraswathamma (59). Kavitha died on Saturday while receiving treatment at a state-run hospital in the district, Chikkaballapura Deputy Commissioner P. Anirudh Sravan told the media. Reportedly, her husband and their two children also took ill after consuming the prasadam and are receiving treatment.

Unlike the tragedy in the Sulvadi temple tragedy in Chamarajanagar, this time the temple management is not involved as reportedly, two women came to the temple and distributed prasadam to the devotees. The temple, on the other hand, had not prepared any prasadam.

The women who distributed the prasadam have been identified as Lakshmi (45) and her domestic help, Amaravathi. They are currently being questioned by the investigators.
