Gudibande : The Amanibyrasagar lake is overflowing after decades on account of the incessant rainfall during the last 10 days to erase the worst memories of drought the area experienced in recent times.
Gundibande , a rocky region in Chikkaballapur district experienced one of the worst droughts in recent times but 10 days of incessant rainfall has changed the scenario in total. Thousands of people are flocking in to see the water overflowing from the lake and are excited about the development.
Women are offering thanksgiving (Bagina in local tradition) and pujas for the favours done by gods to revive their livelihood.
There are reports of dredging operations undertaken by the local administration in the past under RRR scheme. However, locals deny that and are demanding the administration to improve the lake condition which is filled with silt and weeds. They expect the elected representative to atleast act with seriousness when the “Sun Shines!”
The sudden influx of people from nearby villages gave a torrid time to the police, who faced lot of difficulties controlling the surging crowds.
