cattle1Chamarajanagar: The sudden death of two milk yielding cows has raised fresh fears of anthrax disease in Handipur village of Gundlupet taluk.

Two healthy milk yielding cows after consuming fodder died in quick succession raising fears of deadly anthrax attack in the surrounding villages.

Veterinary department Deputy Director Dr. Chennabasappa visited the village and collected blood samples. Dead cows were buried in large pits spayed with chemicals to prevent the spread of anthrax as precautionary measure.

The blood and viscera samples have been sent to testing labs and only on receipt of reports, the real picture will emerge, confirmed Dr. Chennabasappa.

The vaccines to treat anthrax are unavailable in Mysuru and the same will be procured from Bengaluru to inject the cattle in villages around Handipur, said Dr. Chennabasappa.
